HKBU to confer Honorary University Fellowships on four distinguished persons

Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) has announced the conferment of Honorary University Fellowships on four distinguished persons, namely Professor the Hon Chan Wing-kwong (陳永光教授), Mr Chui Wing-on (徐永安先生), Ms Ho Yuen-kei (何宛淇女士) and Ms So Ching (蘇晴女士), in recognition of their outstanding contributions to a wide variety of areas and their support of society. The Honorary University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony will be held on 25 September.

Professor the Hon Chan Wing-kwong

Professor the Hon Chan Wing-kwong is an accomplished Chinese medicine practitioner, a Legislative Council Member of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and a distinguished HKBU alumnus. As an advocate for the continuous advancement of Chinese medicine, Professor Chan has held key positions in numerous organisations and bodies, including the President of Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioners Association, as well as the Vice President of Supervision Board of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the School of Chinese Medicine of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and a Visiting Professor at the Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, where he has nurtured the younger generation. In addition, he is currently the member of the Chinese Medicine Development Committee of the Health Bureau and the Chairman of its Chinese Medicine Practice Subcommittee.

In recognition of his efforts to the education, regulation and development of Chinese medicine, he was awarded the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service by the HKSAR Government in 2019, among many accolades. Professor Chan has endeavoured to achieve in his own service to the University as a Member of the HKBU Council from 2016 to 2021. During this period, he firstly served as a member and subsequently as Deputy Chairman of the Council’s Human Resources Committee. He has been appointed as an Honorary Court Member since 2023. Currently, he is Chairman of the Advisory Committee of HKBU’s School of Chinese Medicine and a member of the Board of Directors of The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong.

Mr Chui Wing-on

Mr Chui Wing-on is a successful lawyer and a committed contributor to Hong Kong’s education communities. Having practised law for over three decades in international law firms, he currently serves as a legal consultant at Gallant. He has always been a bridge between Hong Kong and the Mainland, contributing to the evolution of the rule of law and legal systems in both jurisdictions. His area of focus covers cross-border transactions, assisting Chinese enterprises in listing on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and facilitating multi-national mergers and acquisitions. He was also involved in advising and acting for overseas investors in China as well as Chinese clients investing abroad. He has been appointed as a China-Appointed Attesting Officer by the Ministry of Justice of the People’s Republic of China and from 2017 to 2021, a Member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Committee, Huangpu district, Shanghai.

Beyond his professional work, Mr Chui has served as Chairman of the Appeal Tribunal Panel (Buildings) under the Development Bureau of the HKSAR Government, and Honorary Legal Adviser for the Belt and Road General Chamber of Commerce, among others. Education is a particular area that Mr Chui finds extremely meaningful. Not only has he been involved with secondary schools where he serves as an independent council member, but he has also served as a Member of the HKBU Council from 2019 to 2024, and Chairman of the Council’s Audit Committee in 2024.

Ms Ho Yuen-kei

Ms Ho Yuen-kei is a member of the Boccia Team of Hong Kong, China. Her series of achievements over the years include multiple medals at the Asian Para Games, World Boccia Cup events, and the World Boccia Challenger. She ascended to the no. 1 position in the Individual BC3 classification in the World Boccia Rankings in 2021 and clinched two gold medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Living with spinal muscular atrophy, Ms Ho’s natural talent, indomitable strength, and mastery of the sport through years of hard work and sacrifice have made her one of Hong Kong’s most beloved sports figures. As a proud HKBU alumna, she often returns to campus as a speaker and mentor to share her personal journey.

Ms Ho received the Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service in 2019, and was recognised as one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong, China in 2023. She was also awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in July this year. One of Ms Ho’s most recent contributions has been the establishment of the charity “Love Inclusion Charity Association”. Hand in hand with her co-founder and husband Mr Jet Lee, Ms Ho is dedicated to promoting inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunities, bringing about social progress for the greater benefit of society overall.

Ms So Ching

Ms So Ching is a veteran architect and currently serves as the Executive Director of Wong Tung & Partners Limited. She has led numerous landmark projects, including the Cyberport, the expansion project of the Hong Kong Science Park, the MGM Cotai in Macau, EAST Hong Kong, and Transitional Housing Project at Pok Oi Kong Ha Wai Village.

Beyond her practice, Ms So has significantly advanced her profession through various leadership roles. Ms So was appointed as Council Member of The Hong Kong Institute of Architects and as a member of the UNESCO International Union of Architects Education Commission. She currently serves as Deputy Chair of The Hong Kong Institute of Architects’ Board of Education Affairs, and has been a Member of the Architects Registration Board and Chair of the Board’s Education and Accreditation Committee since 2020.

Ms So has demonstrated strong commitment to public service, as she has held positions such as Member of The Hong Kong Housing Authority, the Governing Committee of the Beat Drugs Fund Association, the Advisory Committee on Admission of Quality Migrants and Professionals and the Steering Committee of Social Housing under The Hong Kong Council of Social Service. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute. She was appointed as Justice of the Peace by the HKSAR Government in 2022 and served as a Member of the HKBU Council from 2019 to 2024.
